Terms of Service
Effective May 8, 2026 · Last updated May 8, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of useauteur.com (the “Site”) and the virtual address, mail handling, and related services offered by Auteur (“Auteur,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) (together with the Site, the “Service”). By using the Site, joining the waitlist, or registering for the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Service is currently in pre-launch. Sections describing payment, identity verification, mail receipt, scanning, forwarding, and related operations apply once the Service is active and you have an account in good standing.
2. Definitions
- “Customer” means an individual or entity with an active Auteur account.
- “Customer Business Address” means the physical street address Auteur assigns to you for use as your business address.
- “Mail Services” means the receipt, scanning, forwarding, and related handling of mail addressed to you at your Customer Business Address.
- “Subscription” means a recurring plan of Mail Services.
3. Description of the Service
3.1 Virtual Business Address
Auteur provides real street addresses in Toronto, Ontario and Vancouver, British Columbia for business correspondence and, where permitted by applicable law, for business registration. You are responsible for confirming that the address meets the requirements of any registry, regulator, bank, or counterparty you intend to use it with.
3.2 Mail Receipt, Scanning, and Forwarding
Once your account is active and your Canada Post authorization is on file, we will receive mail addressed to you at your Customer Business Address, scan envelopes (and contents on request), and forward or recycle items based on your instructions and the limits in your plan.
3.3 Site Tools
The Site may include free tools and informational content (for example, address-format guidance and blog articles). These tools are provided for general information and do not constitute legal, tax, accounting, immigration, or professional advice. You should consult a qualified professional before relying on them.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction if higher, to create an account or receive Mail Services.
5. Account Registration & Verification
5.1 Account
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when you register and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
5.2 Identity Verification (KYC)
Before Mail Services begin, we will verify your identity using government-issued identification and any additional documents required by our compliance providers or applicable law. We may refuse or terminate Mail Services if verification cannot be completed.
5.3 Mail-Receiving Authorization
Canadian commercial mail-receiving rules require that we hold a signed authorization from you before we may accept mail on your behalf. You agree to complete and return any authorization documents promptly. Mail Services will not begin until that document is on file.
6. Fees, Subscription, Auto-Renewal & Refunds
6.1 Fees and Plans
Fees, plan inclusions, and add-on charges are described on our pricing page at the time you subscribe. Taxes are added where required by law.
6.2 Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as you choose) at the then-current rate, unless you cancel before renewal.
6.3 Cancellation
You may cancel your Subscription at any time from your account portal or by emailing hello@useauteur.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you remain responsible for charges accrued before that date.
6.4 Refund Policy
Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. We will refund the most recent renewal charge if you cannot complete identity verification within fifteen (15) days of payment.
6.5 Failed Payments
If a payment fails, we will retry for up to seven (7) days. If payment remains unresolved after that period, we may suspend Mail Services. Accounts unresolved for more than thirty (30) days may be closed, in which case Section 15 (Termination) applies.
7. Acceptable Use & Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law, regulation, or third-party right
- Receive mail on behalf of another person or entity not registered on your account
- Receive items that are hazardous, perishable, illegal, or prohibited by Canada Post or any carrier
- Defraud Auteur, our service providers, or any third party
- Interfere with or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm others
8. Mail Handling
8.1 Receipt and Scanning
We aim to upload an envelope scan within one business day of receiving an item. Content scans are available on request and may be subject to additional fees as set out in your plan.
8.2 Forwarding
You may request forwarding on a recurring or on-demand basis. Postage and packaging are passed through at cost. Delivery times and service levels depend on the carrier you choose.
8.3 Hold Periods
Unless your plan specifies otherwise, we hold mail for thirty (30) days from receipt. Extensions may be available subject to fees.
8.4 Disposal of Unclaimed Mail
Mail that remains unclaimed beyond the hold period (and any extension granted) may be returned to sender, shredded, or recycled in our discretion.
8.5 Lost or Damaged Mail
We exercise reasonable care in handling mail but do not act as insurer. Liability for loss or damage is limited as set out in Section 13.
8.6 Hazardous and Prohibited Items
We may refuse, dispose of, or report items that are hazardous, illegal, or prohibited by carrier or postal regulations. We will notify you where reasonably possible.
9. Intellectual Property
The Site and its content (including text, graphics, logos, and software) are owned by Auteur or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written consent.
10. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Stripe for payments, Vercel for hosting, Google for analytics and intake, and others identified in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those services through Auteur may also be subject to their terms.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, Auteur disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Auteur will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to the Service. Auteur’s aggregate liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to Auteur in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Auteur and its officers, employees, contractors, and service providers from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
15. Termination
15.1 By You
You may terminate your Subscription as set out in Section 6.3.
15.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate the Service, in whole or in part, immediately and without notice if you breach these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if continued provision would expose Auteur or others to risk. We may also terminate the Service for convenience on thirty (30) days’ notice.
15.3 Effect on Mail
On termination, you must collect or arrange forwarding of remaining mail before the end of the applicable hold period. Mail not collected within that window will be handled in accordance with Section 8.4.
16. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of the Province of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service, except that either party may seek interim or injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. Before bringing a formal claim, the parties will attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute by writing to hello@useauteur.com and engaging in informal discussions for at least sixty (60) days.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms on the Site and, where reasonable, give at least thirty (30) days’ notice before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
18. Miscellaneous
- Severability— If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
- Waiver— Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment— You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms to an affiliate or successor.
- Entire Agreement— These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Auteur regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
